Tigers Win Four Events At Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C.- The Savannah State indoor track team won four events at the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State.

Amara Jones won the women's 400m, Tyrone McCoy won the men's 800m, Eric Plump won the men's 200m as did the men's 4x400m relay team.

Jones had a time of 55.09, McCoy posted a time of 1:51.98, Plump ran a time of 21.97 and the men's 4x400m relay team of Chaz Price, Darrius Baker, McCoy and Plump had a winning time of 3:18.17.

Jones' time ranks her 21st nationally in the 400m, while McCoy is currently ranked 25th nationally in the 800m.

Earning second place finishes were Sharonda Redfield in the women's triple jump (11.85m) and the women's 4x400m relay team made up of Aleah Hordges, Demery Craig, Amber Hughes and Amara Jones (3:57.20).

Shawn Sovnenier had two third place finishes. Sovnenier was third in the men's long jump (6.85m) and the triple jump (14.17m). Hordges was third in the women's 400m (58.54) and Ruben Isreal-McBee was third in the men's 3000m (9:13.87).

Hughes was fifth in the women's triple jump (11.43m) and Plump was fifth in the men's 55m (6.49).

Darnell Brown, Anthony Jarvis, Etchien Assinzo and Kevin Carson combined for a sixth place finish in the men's 4x400m relays (3:25.98). Assinzo was sixth in the 800m (1:58.89) and Baker was sixth in the 200m (22.15).

Felton Chinn was eighth in the men's 55m hurdles (8.08) and Price was eighth in the men's 400m (50.18).

Redfield placed ninth in the women's long jump (5.30m) and Craig was 10th in the women's 200m (26.27).
