CHARLESTON,Ill.- Competing in their first meet of the season, the men’s track and field team head to Charleston, Ill. to participate in the Eastern Illinois University Early Bird Invitational Friday Dec. 10th. Fresh off of their Atlantic Sun Conference Championship last season, the team looks to get a fresh start with some new faces, veterans and a brand new coach.

After an extremely successful 2009-2010 season that saw the second A-Sun title in three years for the team and Jerome McKinzie, who qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in high jump, the team will look to continue that success this season. Head track and field coach Andrew Eggerth hopes the meet on Friday will be a good starting point for the team to begin their season.

“Because of our late start to our training, I am not expecting a lot this weekend other than for them to give it 100 percent,” Eggerth said. “I want this meet to give them some experience in a competitive setting. We have started a new technique and I want this meet to stabilize that for them.  Overall, it is a specialized practice for us.”

The competition this weekend will feature six universities from all across the Midwest. Kennesaw State is the only representative from the south. Having a considerably shorter schedule than the outdoor season, the team after traveling to Illinois will visit Clemson S.C. twice and on to Johnson City, Tenn. for their remaining two meets.

Returning for the Owls this season are several Kennesaw State indoor track record holders. Kendall Parks (triple jump), Adam Reed (pole vault), Gianni Catalano (800 meters), Kegan Thurman (heptathlon), Antonio Logan (200m dash) and Joshua James (400m dash) all look to defend their records this season.
