MACON, Ga.- After a stellar outing on Saturday in the Crimson Classic, Nathan Haskins was named Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. This was the first time Haskins has won in his four years on the team.

As the top finisher for the Owls in the Crimson Classic, Haskins’ performance in a tough field of competition saw him placing fifth in the 8k race with a personal record time of 24:27. Racing among top programs such as Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn, Haskins helped his team to a fifth place overall finish in the contest.

“This award couldn't have been given to a greater guy," Owls head cross country coach Stan Sims said. "Nathan has worked hard to get to where he is as a runner right now. He has become a leader for the other guys on the team and continues to push himself and his teammates to do well."

Haskins is proud of the effort and recognition he has been given for his hard work, which earned him a  A-Sun All Conference recognition last season.

“I am very honored to be the runner of the week,” Haskins said. “It has been a long five years to get to this point in my career. I plan to take advantage of each run I have left in order to keep improving. There is a lot of tough competition in our conference so it means a lot for me to be chosen among them.”

The Owls compete next at the Greater Louisville Classic Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
