Gwinnett County Preview

Varsity Boys:

A fantastic feature of this website is the virtual meet capability and the virtual meet has the championship deadlocked at 46 points with Brookwood beating Parkview on a 6th man tiebreaker. The virtual meet is based on the rankings which excludes the variances from course to course but since they competed together in the Berry Championship, it's a good indicator. The UGA and Knights Crossing courses are comparable to Berry time-wise with Knights Crossing being a few ticks faster perhaps. As always, it will be a fantastic meet involving 8 of the top 10 boys teams in AAAAA as well as the #10 AA boys team from GACS and #1 in A, Wesleyan. Collins Hill, Mill Creek, and Peachtree Ridge look to be factors but Peachtree has been hit hard by injury and sickness and are suffering a bit of what the Collins Hill girls had last year at this time. Currently, 5 of the top 7 may not be competing for Peachtree due to sickness or injury.

Team co-favorites: Parkview (#1 All-Class) and Brookwood (#2 All-Class and 2-time defending champions)
Other ranked teams: #3 Collins Hill, #4 Peachtree Ridge, #5 Mill Creek, #7 Norcross, #9 North Gwinnett, #10 Grayson, #10 AA GACS, #1 A Wesleyan
not competing: #6 A Providence Christian, Buford, Hebron Christian

Individual favorites: Alec Klassen, Parkview (Berry Champion 15:43); Andy Gonzalez, Collins Hill (Knights Crossing Champion 15:46); Sean Brennan, Brookwood (Stage Races Champion 9:41)
other contenders: Austin Boetje, Mill Creek; Jackson Wearn, Brookwood; Steven Spevacek, Parkview
possibly not competing: Josh Brickell, Peachtree Ridge

Varsity Girls:

After winning 6 straight championships which coincided with state championships, the wheels fell off for the Collins Hill girls in a big way last year. With 8 of the top 11 girls sick the week of County, the Eagles were unable to field a full team and saw their streak snapped by Brookwood. North Gwinnett came back to win state and now, all 3 teams are strong and deep again. Collins Hill has reversed their fortunes of a year ago and has all of their top 7 strong and healthy. Based on the virtual meet, the Eagles are probably in the best position right now because North and Brookwood have been unable to field their full top 7's due to illness and injuries over the summer. Regardless, all 3 teams are deep and very good and will likely have some epic battles this season.

Team Favorites: North Gwinnett (#1 All-Class), Brookwood (defending champions and #4 All-Class), and Collins Hill (#3 All-Class)
other ranked teams: #7 Peachtree Ridge, #10 Parkview, #4 AA GACS, #4 A Wesleyan
not competing: #6 AA Buford, #8 A Providence Christian, Hebron Christian

Individual favorites: Jordan Humphrey, North Gwinnett (UGA Champion - only girl under 19:00 this season), Chloe Whitworth, Collins Hill; Vicky Winslow, Collins Hill; Lauren Kestor, GACS
