GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kennesaw State sophomore Dan Grass kicked off the Owls’ first-ever appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a 1:51.64 performance in the 800 Meters in the East Region Preliminary Round.

Grass, who won the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in the 800 Meters with a championship-record time of 1:49.76, went out in just over 52 seconds for his first 400 meters to try and keep up the pace set by Louisiana State’s Richard Jones, who came into the race with the second fastest time in the east, but slowed down over the final half to place sixth in his eight-person heat, and 41st overall.

“I usually feel more comfortable when I’m able to run at the same pace throughout the race, and with some of the runners in my heat, that was hard to do since they went out really quickly,” said Grass, who missed out on qualifying for Friday night’s Quarterfinals, which is reserved for the top 24 finishers in the opening round. “That took me a little bit out of my comfort zone, and it was hard to pick up a lot of time towards the end.”

The four remaining men competing for the Owls will be in action tomorrow, beginning with Josh McNair in the Shot Put at 3:00 p.m. Live results and video streaming will be available throughout the weekend.
