ATLANTA- The Kennesaw State Owls women’s track and field team posted 14 top-three finishes and set two new program records on Saturday, as they defeated Clemson and lost to Georgia Tech at a two-way dual meet at Georgia Tech.

The Owls, who were competing in their first and only dual meet of the outdoor season, and were competing for the final time before the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Championships, defeated Clemson by a score of 95.00 to 73.00, and were bettered by Georgia Tech by a 118.00 to 72.00 count.

Sophomore Shelby Hines made her mark on program lore, setting a new school record in 200 Meters with a time of 24.55 seconds to finish third in the event.

Also setting a new school record was the 4x100 team LaKeshia Stinson, Victoria Jackson, Cynthia Davis and Hines. The squad ran the race in a time of 47.58 seconds, bettering the program’s former best time of 47.61 seconds, which was achieved last season at the Seminole Twilight. They finished second in the event to Georgia Tech’s ‘A’ team, who posted a time of 45.92 seconds.

Jackson did well in her individual events, as well, placing third and fourth in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter events, respectively, with times of 12.01 and 24.76 seconds.

The middle distance events were also a source of success for the Owls on Saturday. Finishing second in the 800 Meters was Brittany Robinson, who finished in front of two Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and two Clemson Tiger on her way to a race time of 2:15.38. Finishing second and third in the 3000 Meters was Mackenzie Howe and Erin Sutton, respectively, with times of 9:51.30 and 10:17.14. Howe, a junior, went toe-to-toe with Georgia Tech’s Mary Kate DuBard throughout most of the race, just falling short of DuBard’s winning 9:47.86 performance.

The field events were represented by Owls extremely well, as junior Jessica Lumpkin had a pair of runner-up finishes in the Shot Put and Hammer Throw with tosses of 12.30 meters (40’4.25”) and 48.63 meters (159’6”), respectively, and Jill Arthur had a runner-up finish of her own, coming in the Triple Jump with a top leap of 12.07 meters (39’7.25”). Kennesaw State went 2-3-4 in the Shot Put, as Chiquita Hawthorne and Suzee Mills also followed Lumpkin in the standings in that event, in that order. Mills had a pair of top-three finish of her own, coming in third in the Discus Throws and Hammer Throw with tosses of 39.19 meters (128’7”) and 46.80 meters (153’6”).

Next up for the Owls will be the A-Sun Championships, which will be hosted by North Florida beginning on May 14.
