MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior Mackenzie Howe was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Runner of the Week on Thursday, the conference announced. The award is the seventh of such kind this year for Howe, including one in indoor track and five in cross country.

Howe re-affirmed her prowess in distance running, winning the 10,000 Meters at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee Saturday. The junior health and exercise science major from Watkinsville, Ga. completed the race in a time of 36:03.05. Her winning mark represented an improvement of more than 40 seconds of her time of 36:44.06 that won her the 2009 A-Sun Outdoor Championship in the event, and is currently the 17th best in the NCAA East Region this season. The top-48 times at the end of the regular season qualify for the NCAA East Regional, which takes place May 27 through 29.

Mackenzie joins Suzzette Van-Lare and Jakia Ragland as the third Owl to win Women’s Athlete of the Week in track and field this season. Van-Lare and Ragland were awarded Field Athlete of Week honors for their performances in jump events on April 8 and March 17, respectively.
