KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Mackenzie Howe made her 2010 debut in the 10,000 Meter Run count this weekend, taking first place in the event at the Sea Ray Relays. The Owls posted four top-10 finishes, and a new program record was set in the 4x400 Meter Relay.

Howe, a junior and the reigning A-Sun champion in the 10,000 Meters, showed signs that she will be a tough out once again come championship time in May, bettering her championship-winning time of 36:44.06 with a 36:03.05 effort on Friday evening. Her teammate, senior Erin Sutton, was also a factor in the event, finishing fifth with a time of 37:11.94.

Sophomore Brittany Robinson logged a fourth place performance in the unseeded competition for the 800 Meters, posting a time of 2:18.71.

The 4x400 outdoor program record was set on early Saturday evening, as the quartet of Decoshia Boswell, Victoria Jackson, Robinson, and Shelby Hines worked together to put up a time of 3:49.10, surpassing the school record of 3:49.65 set by a squad that included Robinson and Hines at last year’s A-Sun Outdoor Championships. Their performance earned them a 12th place finish.

In the field, senior Jill Arthur had a strong performance in the Triple Jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 11.96 meters.

Making the trip allowed the Owls to compete with some of the top programs in track and field. Programs such as Tennessee, who hosted the event, were joined by the likes of South Florida, Cincinnati, Alabama, and Kentucky.

The Owls continue their outdoor schedule next weekend, when they travel to Auburn to take part in the Auburn War Eagle Invitational April 16-17.
