Owls use four victories and 11 top-three finishes to win JSU Gem of the Hills Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.- Kennesaw State men’s track used four event wins and 11 podium finishes to earn a victory in their first scored event of the outdoor track and field season, finishing in first place at the Gem of the Hills Invitational at Jacksonville State University.

Freshman Ryan Burruss won the Steeplechase for the second consecutive week, running the 3000 meter event in 9:44.84. He was joined in the victory circle on Saturday by sophomore Daniel Grass, who was victorious in the 800 Meters with a time of 1:52.55. Both performances set new meet records.

The other two wins came in the field events, as Tyler Riberdy was the best in the field in the Triple Jump, pulling off a top leap of 13.57 meters. Freshman Casey Reynolds earned his first collegiate victory, winning the Shot Put with a top toss of 14.21 meters.

The Owls finished the event with 146 points, and were comfortably able to edge out runner-up Stillman, who finished with 114.50 points. Kennesaw State had 29 scoring performances on Saturday. The meet had a total of 14 teams in the event.
