Several Owls perform well at Pepsi Florida Relays this weekend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – 10 members of the Kennesaw State Owls men’s track and field team traveled to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays this weekend.

The event, which featured athletes from some of the top programs in the country, was open only to those who met certain standards in their particular events. It gave those selected on the Owls the chance to showcase their skills in front of the some of the best collegiate track and field has to offer.

Senior Josh McNair competed in the Shot Put and the Hammer Throw, putting together two solid performances. He placed tenth in the Shot Put with a top toss of 16.50 meters, breaking his school record of 15.96 meters that he set at the Relays back in 2008. His 54.06 meter throw in the Hammer Throw put him 16th and in front of throwers from schools such as Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, and Clemson.

Senior Jerome McKinzie, who was making his outdoor track and field debut of 2010 after his NCAA Indoor Championship run, cleared 2.00 meters this weekend, well short of the 2.20 mark he hit to qualify for the indoor nationals, but good for a respectable 13th place finish.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Jemir Martinez, Travis Benton, Kendall Parks and Frank Minton, who came into the meet with fresh off of a 40.45 second mark in the event to set a school record at the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic, finished 12th in the event, coming in with a time of 40.95 seconds.

Minton and Benton also competed in the 100 Meter Dash, with their respective times of 10.65 and 10.67 seconds currently placing them second and third in the A-Sun in the event this season.
