MACON, Ga. – Senior jumper Jakia Ragland was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, after her winning performance in the High Jump at the Asics Coastal Carolina Invitational this past weekend.
Ragland cleared the 1.65 meter bar (5’5”) on her second try, earning the win in the event after the other two competitors who did clear 1.65 meters took three attempts to do it.
This is the first career Athlete of the Week award for the Buford, Ga., native, who is one of the top jumpers in the conference, as was demonstrated at the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships in February, when she finished second in the High Jump. She is the 2009 Indoor Champion in the High Jump.
Ragland and the rest of the Owls squad will head to Cullowhee, N.C. in two weeks to compete in the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic at Western Carolina University. The meet will take place March 26-27.
