What's fun about cross country is that every course is different. But what's fun about MileSplit is that it offers a way to compare times across these different courses. And we can combine multiple courses and come up with a ranking of sorts even though the athletes didn't race each other head to head. So each week we are going to compare performances from the top meets of the weekend. Note, we will only go as deep as the top 1000 individuals, so if your 5 scorers did not place in the top 1000, then there will not be a team score.
This week we're looking at results from Apalachee, Cherokee County Classic, Patriot Pride, Into the Trail, Peach State Preview, and Kosh Klassic
A few things stand out to me from this weekend. First is the how good Bleckley County's boys team looks. They've got a strong pack and look like they hit the freshmen lottery as two of their scorers were freshmen Brody Gibbs and Elliot Lynch. Gibbs...now where have we heard that last name before...? They do need to close the gap from 4-5 a little bit to be a top team all class, but considering Lynch is just a freshman, that could definitely happen. Either way it's not surprising that they're establishing themselves as an early favorite for a state title. Their girls look good too, as usual, but so do the Milton girls. One can assume they had a good summer of mileage considering they got PR's from 3 of their top 5 girls right out of the gate on a course that's not known for it's speed. They were led by individual champion Caroline Spain who laid down the 2nd fastest 5k time of the weekend on a HOT morning. They should be a podium threat come November. And giving credit where credit is due, I was impressed by the improvement of the Buford girls team this weekend as well as the Hebron boys who both finished pretty high up in the results merge.
