MACON, Ga. - Freshman Tremaine Grant was part of two record-setting performances at the Gene Anderson UNC Invitational on Friday, and the Atlantic Sun Conference noticed, naming him their Men’s Runner of the Week on Wednesday.

Grant, a freshman and native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., finished second in the 60 Meter High Hurdles at the event in Chapel Hill, N.C., running it in a time of 8.15 seconds, .1 seconds better than the standing indoor school record of 8.25 seconds set by his teammate, sophomore Kendall Parks.

He was also a part of the winning 4x400 Meter Relay Team that set a new indoor school record for the event on a 200-meter track. He joined sophomore Daniel Grass and fellow freshmen Travis Benton and Ethan Kasson in the relay event, where the quartet produced a time of 3:19.60 to win the race and set another school record.

“I’m happy my times are improving. Coach [Devin] West and I have worked really hard and it’s finally starting to show in my times,” said Grant, who ran the 60 Meter Hurdles in 8.35 seconds the last time he competed in the event at the Niswonger Invitational back in January. “This was a Personal Record for me, and I’m definitely becoming more and more comfortable as the season progresses. There’s more work to be done, though, and I still want to get a lot better.”

Grant now holds three indoor school records for the Owls. He set the 55 Meter Hurdles record on January 31 in at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., with a time of 7.69 seconds.

He is the first runner on the Owls to be named a Men’s A-Sun Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. Seniors Josh McNair (throws) and Jerome McKinzie (jumps) have both been named Field Athlete of the Week this season.

"The indoor track and field performances by student-athletes within the Atlantic Sun Conference have greatly improved year after year. In order to keep up with the competition, our student-athletes have responded well to the challenge," said Owls head coach Don McGarey. "Tremaine is well deserving of the Runner of the Week award. he has an excellent work ethic, discipline and focus as is reflected by both his excellent athletic and academic accomplishments."

Tremaine and his teammates do not compete this weekend, as they prepare for the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held at East Tennessee State beginning February 26. The Owls will be looking to win their second indoor conference title in three years, and improve from their second place finish in 2009.
