2025 Georgia T&F Senior Spotlight: Kiley Mitchell

Senior spotlight is an attempt to let athletes tell as much of their own story as we can. We want to take a look into some of the things that make them tick. If you are a senior who was top 10 in Georgia last year in your event and want to be featured, send an email to milesplitga@gmail.com

Here we've got Kiley Mitchell from Alpharetta for a senior spotlight moment:

What are your high school PR's so far?

200m - 23.86 400m - 54.02

What are your college plans, if you have them figured out?

I am committed to Georgia Tech where I plan on majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

What's your most memorable race or race you're most proud of?

My most memorable race would be my 400m final at state my sophomore year which I won. A close second would be my 200m final at state my junior year where I ran sub 24 for the first time.

What has been your biggest challenge in high school or what has been the hardest obstacle to overcome?

My biggest obstacle would probably be my pre race anxiety.

What is your typical warm up routine and/or weight room routine like?

Before I run, whether at a meet or at practice, I do a warm up lap and my dynamic drills. After we finish the running workout, we go to the weight room. Legs are Mondays, arms are Tuesdays, Wednesdays are recovery and plyometrics, and Thursdays are full body plyometrics.

What do you think is the biggest part of training that has helped you achieve success?

Working on my form has helped my races a lot. When I first started running, I didn't know there was a proper way to run to help you get faster.

What is your all time favorite workout?

My favorite workout is banded block starts. Every time I do this workout, I feel like my block starts get a lot better and they make me feel powerful.

What is your least favorite or hardest workout?

My least favorite workout is any variation of a broken 500, whether it is 300-200, 300-100-100, or 200-100-200. I am also not a fan of 300m hills.

Who do you have to thank for your success?

I have my coach and parents to thank for my success. They push me and always believe in me. My teammates also push me in practice and make running fun.

Who do you look up to the most in your event?

I look up to Sydney McLaughlin and Gabby Thomas. I love watching them race and dominate their events.

What gets you pumped up for a training session or race?

Listening to music always gets me hype before a race and at practice. Music helps bring energy to the environment and always puts people in a good mood.

What is your favorite food and/or movie and/or TV show and/or song?

My favorite food to eat the night before a meet is curry chicken and rice. My favorite song is anything by Billie Eilish. My favorite movie is Interstellar.

What will you miss the most about high school?

I will miss my teammates and my coach the most. The track team is very close and it'll feel weird not running with them anymore.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell myself to trust the process and be patient.
