Stephenson Boys and Chamblee Girls Win DeKalb County Titles

Sprinters blast off the line in the boys 100-meter dash Thursday

The 2021 DeKalb County Championships are officially in the books after an eventful 2 days of competition. There was some rain on Thursday, and meet officials decided the hurdles events would be timed finals on Friday which came as a bonus for track fans. MileSplit Georgia shot photos on Day 1, and video both days. Overall, 36 MileSplit 2nd team National Elite performances were achieved. Stephenson's boy took home the team title led by Bradley Favors double in the 400/200m races, sped to wins in the 4x100 and 4x400, Jace Coleman won the 100-meter dash, while Isiah Screen took Gold in the 110 hurdles. Decatur's distance strength help pushes them to runner-up honors as they won the 4x800, scored 20 points in the 3200m behind Christian Gonzalez's win and 3rd place finish by Daniel Blaich, while Blaich and Yankovic picked up 14 points in the 1600m, and Kenric Lanier won the LJ with a leap of 22-0. Chamblee's girls claimed the team title on the other side of the meet scoring 118 points for a 21 point victory margin over Dunwoody. The Lady Bulldogs who won events were Ariel Raggs taking the 300 hurdles at 44.63 (2nd in the 100 hurdles) and Claire Silvestri won the pole vault. Chamblee had many 2nd place finishes though, like freshman Solai Washington in the 100-meter dash, Kenedi Bates in the 400m, and their 4x800 squad. Dunwoody was powered mainly by Nationally ranked Janae Profit's sweep of the throws and Claire Shelton's near 'triple' as she won the 800/1600m and finished a close second in the 3200m.
