2021 Outdoor Track: Wolverine Relays Meet Preview

As we begin to accelerate into mid-March of the outdoor track and field season, the national indoor stars should be back on the track soon. MileSplit Georgia will be onsite at the Wolverine Relays hosted by Union Grove High School this Saturday. We will be shooting photos and race videos that will be posted Sunday for viewing and have a photo-based meet summary posted later in the evening.

One of the great things about relays is that they are the most team-oriented events available in the sport. Relays generate excitement that few other events can harness with the exception of the 100-meter dash for sprinters and the 1600/Mile run for HS distance runners. Relays are all about teamwork, getting people off their butts, lining the fences, and cheering on your school. And man, the Throwers relays tend to really get teammates jacked up when those big boys pound the mondo racing for glory and perhaps a pizza if they win!

There are 15 schools entered to compete at the Wolverine Relays, including some state title-contending squads. The Girls side includes the powerful 3-peat state champion Buford Girls and perennial contender Maynard Jackson who won state titles from 2015-2016. Look for Buford's boys to set the track on fire in the short relays with SW DeKalb a serious challenger in those as well. If Decatur HS runs their distance studs in the 4x1600, look for that squad to make its way into the top 10 All-Time in Georgia track and field.
