2020 Fall Signings: Janae Profit Commits to Virginia

Wednesday, Nov 11th, 2020 NCAA National Signing Day

Janae Profit, Class of 2021 finally made her long-awaited decision as to where she will be continuing her career as a collegiate athlete participating in Women's Track & Field as a thrower. She will continue her throwing and educational career for the wahoos at the University of Virginia joining fellow Georgia track stars Justin Wachtel and Andrew Jones next Fall.

Profit first participated in track and field at the Cowart Family YMCA on a team formed by Donald Woodruff and Dominic Demeritte. Her parents signed her up as a joke knowing that the young girl despised running. However, Steven Green, a Marist School Throws Coach would introduce her to the shot put and to her 2nd home in the ring.

Janae would throw her way into National Competition at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championship her very 1st year picking up the shot put. Guided by her father, Joseph Profit Jr, she would qualify for national competitions every year after that earning her All-American Status in the USATF and AAU Championships.

During her middle school years, she would become a Dekalb County Champion both individually as well as with her team, Chamblee Middle School, coached by Terrence Jett and Coach Rodna Rockeymore. She currently holds the Georgia Middle School State Championship record in the discus with a toss of almost 115 feet as an 8th grader.

However, it's Janae's high school years that have proven to be the most noteworthy of all. Janae not only was able to help her Dunwoody Team, Coached by Robert Buggs and Lehman Best, to a Georgia High School Association 6A State Championship title but she also earned herself a Shot Put Champion title as only a sophomore.

The pandemic would shatter dreams of a 2020 season. However, before the bug was out of the bag, Janae was able to sling her discus 157'9" before the shutdown. This throw would give her the 2nd best discus throw in all of GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL track and field history. She would go on to throw a lot further over the summer at her Throws Club meet, THROW 1 DEEP. Her coaches here include Tom Fraker and Angus Fisher as well as world-renowned coaches; Mike Judge, Ronda Broom, and Chris Rodgers.

Janae was courted by many colleges and universities during the shutdown. D1 Schools from BIG 10, PAC 10, ACC, SEC, BIG 12 and PAC12, IVY League Schools, D2 and D3 schools all had this Dunwoody Thrower at the top of their boards. Janae spent her entire summer making her list and checking it twice in order to narrow down her choices before the start of her senior year.

Milesplit Georgia's followers voted her the 'THROWER OF THE DECADE' because this young thrower can throw them all (except the javelin). She throws the discus, shot put, weight throw, and hammer. She was also 2020's Georgia's Gatorade Athlete of the Year runner-up for Track and Field. This is quite a feat with her Junior Season being cut short and being one of the youngest competitors in the field. Not to mention that her competition in both was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!
