GHSA Schools May Begin Conditioning This Monday

Per the GHSA on 5/28, Schools may return to conditioning beginning on Monday, June 8. Groups of up to 20, including coaches, for workouts per sport at any given time at the campus/facility. Campus/facility refers to the buildings and contiguous property surrounding the buildings. Teams cannot have a group from one sport in the weight room and another from the same sport on a field on the same campus. This includes adjacent middle school properties. However, if your middle school that feeds the high school is on an entirely different campus/facility, a second group from the same sport is allowed to condition at that location following the same guidelines.  'Groups' should be the same individuals (including coaches) for each session to limit the risk of exposure. Students nor coaches are forbidden to change groups for the duration of this guidance. AD's and Head Coaches are allowed to monitor all workouts. Schools that employ a 'Strength and Conditioning' coach may use that individual to direct all workouts and count towards the group limit of 20 persons. Social distancing, hand washing/sanitizer are strongly recommended as are masks/face coverings for these individuals. Groups should be consistent from workout to workout.

The GHSA stresses to please adhere to the guidance provided as it is given to create the safest environment for coaches, athletes, and all with whom they come in contact. This guidance may change over time, but it will remain in place for at least the first week of workouts as conditioning is the focus rather than sport-specific skills. Safety is the top priority and cooperation is necessary.

Word around the grapevine is many cross country programs will be resuming conditioning Monday. Good luck, stay safe, and have fun.
