Brown University Axes Men's Cross Country & Track

President's press release

Brown University's President Christina Paxson made a startling announcement on 5/28, transitioning 11 varsity sports to club status. Normally, for us down here in Georgia, not such a big deal, but it adversely affects two of our more accomplished distance runners who graduated in 2018 and 2017, including Griffin McCauley of Paideia and Ben McCoy of Blessed Trinity, both of whom were members of Brown's Varsity XC and Track & Field squads. Now, of course, academics at Brown were the primary motivators for these guys attending the Ivy league school up in Providence, Rhode Island, as there are no sports scholarships awarded at these institutions.
