Incredible Piece By GATFXCCA: Olympians Feature

Spec Towns

This is truly one of the best, most detailed researched pieces that has ever been done in the history of Georgia High School Track and Field. This project was a labor of love by GATFXCCA President Matt Henson of Parkview HS. The sheer magnitude of this is astounding, including many obscure athletes from the 'segregated' era in Georgia who were ignored for decades (nearly all the schools are now defunct), but not forgotten by GATFXCCA!

This is an absolute must read article, and, if you don't, you are truly missing out on the history of the Sport. It includes video of Spec Towns (legendary UGA Head Coach) in the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics in the High Hurdles and Alice Coachman high jumping in the 1948 Olympics! These videos are a step way back in time, much like the great movies 'Chariots of Fire' based on the 1924 Oympics in Paris, France, and 'Race', focusing on Jesse Owens' life and the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany.  If you have not seen these movies, you need to do so now, especially since most of you are climbing the walls inside your home due to COVID-19. I urge you to witness the history of the Sport, and, if in some small way, perhaps let it inspire you as an athlete or person to reach your potential as a human being in the race of life...
