Georgia Schools Closed For Remainder Of Academic Year

On Wednesday Governor Kemp made it official and ordered K-12 schools closed for the rest of the academic year as COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc in Georgia. A statewide 'shelter in place order' is likely to be announced within the hour. School districts are still educating students online, but state officials have delayed the high-stakes standardized testing that guides much of the instruction.

This shutdown of the remainder of the academic year shouldn't come as a complete surprise as Alabama did this on 3/27 with it increasingly likely as the number of deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, continues to skyrocket. The US coronavirus death toll has doubled in the last 3 days and today at least 911 deaths have been reported nationally.

Ultimately, with schools being closed down by the order of the governor, its logical that the bell has tolled that 2020 scholastic Spring Sports are not going to happen now. Also, more than 90% of Americans are facing a 'Stay at Home' order. So everyone, stay safe and maintain social distancing.
