John Higinbotham: Day 1 @ Foot Locker Nationals

It was a great day today. We arrived in San Diego around 1:30 p.m. It is a beautiful, coastal city with fantastic weather. Our hotel, the Hotel Del Coronado, is an opulent historic hotel on the beach. When we got here we checked in, hung out with the other South guys, and waited enthusiastically for our gear.

When we were finally called into a room to get our stuff, our anticipation had peaked pretty high, but the New Balance stuff did not disappoint. They gave us a lot of gear: two pairs of sweat pants, two jackets, two long sleeved and two short sleeved running shirts, a pair of running shorts, a pair of trainers, spikes, and of course the uniform. Christmas will have a hard time competing with that!

After that, I ran by myself along a pedestrian trail right on the beach during sunset. That, combined with tapering made for one of the most fun and scenic runs of my life (even if a random guy made fun of my short shorts). We then closed out the day with a spaghetti buffet and games.
