Lower Richland's Tyler Graves Receives State Honor

Lower Richland's Tyler Graves was named male Gatorade state athlete of the year this week. Graves is the second track and field athlete chosen from Lower Richland (Jaylen Bacon).

Graves captured 2019 Class AAAA state titles in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. The Diamond Hornets finished seventh as a team.

Grave is a member of the
National Society of Black Engineers and a participant in his school's Technology Student Association. He has volunteered locally repairing houses for the disadvantaged. He has also donated his time as a youth tutor and track coach.

"Tyler is an exceptional talent in the hurdles," said Jackie Robinson, head coach of
Orangeburg-Wilkinson. "He reached a level that very few individuals reach in the event."
