3A Boys

3A Boys

Jefferson HS has their strongest squad in recent history. The Dragons are loaded in the field events and have one of the top hurdlers in 3A. Many schools have at a shot a team Podium spot including: Westminster who is always solid and could move up to 2nd, Liberty County, Hart County and Cedar Grove will push for podium spots. Monroe Area would have been a title contender had they not lost 2 top athletes to injury in Chase Spann and Elijah Compton.

Sprints

100m- This is going to be a great races w/ 3 athletes having pr's within .02 of each other. Trevin Curry from Hart County was fastest this Spring at 10.72, followed very closely by Travon Phillips from Long County and Namon Pointer of Johnson-Savannah.

200m- Phillips from Long County has the top time coming into Albany in the 200 at 21.40. Challengers could be Dennis Foster of Jackson HS, Jaleel Gilbert of Liberty County and Curry from Hart County.

400m- The 400 is wide open with Monroe Area's Spann out of the picture, but team mate Kason Jones will try to pickup the slack and move up. This leaves Sam Adams of Pace with the top pr of 48.94 Dennis Foster of Jackson could make a run at Gold.

Distance

800m- Better go hi-def on the Identilynx camera for the finish of the 800m as 4 runners have pr's within .36 of each other. XC Champ Devan Crow has the fastest time of the group at 1:57.71 followed by George Adams of Pace, Collin Kilgore of Dawson County and Sam Adams of Pace.

1600m- Devan Crow is a clear favorite in this event having a sb time of 4:16.26 Shane Shelafoe of East Jackson, Peter Huff of Westminster, Jackson Borden of Lovett and George Adams of Pace will be in a tight chase pack.

3200m- Westminster has a pair of contenders in this race with Peter Huff (9:28) and Zachary Roe (9:37) Shelafoe posted the 2nd quickest time of the season at 9:29

Hurdles

110h- Eli Morris from Jefferson HS attacks the hurdles is tops all-classes with a pr of 13.63 Everyone else in the field will get a good view of his back, though 5 athletes have sb of sub :15

300h- Morris at 37.80is now the man to beat in the 300h with Compton of Monroe Area out. The only other athlete sub :40 is Demetri Cooper of Cedar Grove.

Relays

4x100- Cedar Grove had the 2nd best time in 3A this Spring at 42.21 Liberty County follows them with a pr of 42.44, Islands HS and Jefferson (not known for speed), Peach County and GAC will make for an exciting race.

4x400- Like in recent times, Cedar Grove has a fast 4x400 squad having the top time in 3A at 3:20.45 Franklin County pr'd at Sectionals in 3:25.10 Pace, Monroe Albany, Jeferson and Liberty County are evenly matched.

Field Events

HJ- Jason Burke of Jefferson has a bar of 6-8, Donte Oliphant of Liberty County cleared 6-7 at Sectionals and there are 4 others w/ pr's of 6-4.

LJ- Noah Whittington from Peach County had a mark of 23-7 two months ago at a small meet. Jamal McMillian of Cook pr'd at region with a leap of 23-1.50 Elijah Hobson of Towers, Seth Robertson of Morgan County and LaDerrick Johnson from Jackson could contend.

TJ- 4 athletes have pr's of 46+, including Elijah Williams of Monroe Area (46-8.50), Shun Taylor of Towers, Garmon Randolph of Jefferson and Elijah Robinson from Hart County.

PV- The vault could get nervy with 5 athletes having bars of 13-6 to 14-0 Andrew Protiva of Westminster and John Lovett from Pike County have both cleared 14-0 this Spring. Tripp Bullock (13-8) of Jefferson will be skying for team points.

Discus- Spencer Helms of GAC is the clear favorite in the discus having a pr mark of 166-1 Robbie Head of Jefferson comes in #2 at 148-10.

Shot- Robbie Head of Jefferson led 3A in the Shot with a toss of 52-1 Region rival was tops at Sectionals and Antwann Winn from Liberty County is within striking distance.

3A Girls is Coming next...

Jasmine Jones of Greater Atlanta Christian

3A Girls

5 schools could accumulate nearly 60% of the available points to be scored down in Albany. 3A girls could be another barnburner with GAC having to hold off the always talented defending champ Monroe Albany squad who get to sleep in their beds and eat at home along with rabid fans. Jefferson brings one of their strongest squads in recent history. Westminster and Cedar Grove will be gunning for 3rd/4th teamwise and Pike County could have their best state meet in recent school history.

Sprints

100m- 3 gals have times of sub 12.25 this season in 3A, led by Cedar Grove's Aubrey Guyden at 12.11, Mikendy Edwards from Monroe-Albany and Serenity Harry of Stone Mtn.

200m- Jasmine Jones of GAC is clearly the favorite in the 200 with a pr of 24.17. Everyone else is racing for 2nd with Aubrey Guyden of Cedar Grove, Mikendy Edwards of Monroe-Albany and Harry of Stone Mtn. chasing.

400m- This is going to be a big event for title contenders GAC and Monroe Albany. Chloe Fair of GAC was fastest thru Sectionals at 56.62 Monroe's Ja'Milya Poole and Nia Harris can score big points for the Tornadoes.

Distance

800m- Naima Turbes of Westminster (2:15.97) is the defending champ and someone will really need to raise their game to dethrone her. Haley Hooper of Lovett is the sole runner under 2:20 with a shot.

1600m- The big ? looming here is will Turbes of Westminster put the pedal to the metal? She has a 2018 pr of 4:50, but has cruised in 2019. Their are some tough runners in the race including team mate Katherine Vuckovic (5:03) and Hooper of Lovett at 5:08

3200m- Sectionals was a pure Q' fest for the 3200. Vuckovic of Westminster comes in with the fastest time at 11:19. 7 others in the field have went sub 12: led by Payton Payne from Pace Academy.

Hurdles

100h- Jasmine Jones of GAC is in a class of her own in this event as she currently is #1 in the USA with a smokin' time of 13.33! Only 2 girls have went sub :15 other than Jasmine including Tayla Moreland from Pike County and Gracie McBride from North Hall.

300h- Its another Monroe vs GAC bonanza in this event with GIANT team points at stake before the 4x400 relay. Ja'Milya Poole of Monroe cruised at Sectionals but comes in with the best pr at 43.32 Chloe Fair of GAC will be pursuing at 44.02 Camielle Milledge of Monroe at 44.70 could push for 2nd.

Relays

4x100- This race is going get Saturday Finals off with a bang as GAC's pr is 47.07 and Monroe's at 47.47 No one else will be within 10m.

4x400- A true track fan couldn't ask for more as the 3A title could still be up for grabs. Hometown Monroe will be egged on by its fans with a pr of 3:59.01 and GAC's faithful in attendance will be fully engaged as well at 4:00.85 Cedar Grove was tops at Sectionals in 4:03

Field Events

HJ- Camielle Milledge of Monroe-Albany pr'd at Sectional with a bar of 5-3 There are 3 gals with bars of 5-2 in 2019 including Kayla Cox of Kendrick HS, JoJo Smith from Jefferson and Macy Carter from Pike County.

LJ- This is a potential event for Jasmine Jones of GAC to go triple Gold in as she sports a pr of 19-8.25 this Spring. Tayla Moreland of Pike has went deep at 18-11.50 and Mikendy Edwards of Monroe-Albany will be pulling out the stops for team points.

TJ- The TJ should be very competitive with 4 athletes having marks of 37+ led by Kayla Cox of Kendrick at 38-10 Taliyah Carter from Cook had a big jump of 37-11.50 this regular season.

PV- The Lady Dragons could sweep this event having the top 2 bars in girls 3A in 2019. Claire Kulniszewski has a bar of 11-1 and Anna Moore 10-6

Discus- Antania Swain of Cedar Grove led the class this Spring in the discus with a mark of 128-6, Leia Williams of Liberty County pr'd at Sectionals with a toss of 123-0

Shot- Ellie Isaacs from Jefferson has the top mark coming into the meet at 40-10.25, Anna Lowe from Dawson County tossed the rock 39-2 at Region, Alana Thomas of GAC is a close 3rd at 38-10
