AAAAAA State Meet Preview

The 6A meet once again will return to the fine facility of Grisham Stadium at Carrollton HS. Allatoona HS is the defending champ, but on paper based on Sectionals a new Champ will be crowned. This could be a very low scoring 6A State Track meet.. with up to 27 schools capapble of scoring 10 points and more. On paper its between an unlikely Glynn Academy squad and Morrow HS. Northview, Alpharetta, Bradwell Institute and MLK are all team Podium contenders. 

100m- The 100m dash could be a showdon between 2 sub 10.60 sprinters including Shamar Rose from Bradwell Institute and Jhivon Wilson of MLK.

200m- Expect the same duel in this race as Wilson has the better time at 21.18 to Rose's 21.26. Jimmy Calloway of Morrow pr'd at Sectionals at 21.43

400m- There are 3 sub :49 sprinters featured in the 400, including class leader Kevin Haley Jr. of Apaplachee (48.43) along with Jadis Dunigan of Morrow and Robbie Ruppel of Alpharetta. 

800m- Gabriel Peacock of Morrow has the fastest time coming in at an early season meet going 1:55.08, challenging will be Anthony Parisi of Pope, Alexander Windham of Allatoona, Kyle Coleman of Chattahoochee and Brian Bird of North Atlanta.

1600m- This may well be the best 1600m race of all classes. Bama' signee Jalen Murray of Richmond Hill has a pr of 4:16.17, Sully Shelton of Harrison is .5 behind him and Jack Filan of Cambridge has good 800m speed. 

3200m- The same showdown between those 3 will happen in the 3200m with Filan and Shelton having pr's of 9:14 along with Murray at 9:20.

110h- 11 hurdlers in 6A went sub :15 this season, with Allan Mbah of Lovejoy up top at 14.18. Pushing him could be Jean Charles of Langston Hughes and Malik Mixon of Northgate.

300h- This race is anyone's to win with 6 sub 39.52 hurdlers vying for Gold. Zachary Charles of Lanier has the top pr at 38.81. Pushing could be Nahil Perkins of Lanier, Mixon of Northgate and Elijuan Singleton of Glynn Academy. 

4x100- This is a big event for team points as Morrow (41.42) will try to ourun Glynn Academy, Bradwell and Alpharetta. 

4x400- Morrow is a slight favorite to take this race (3:17.94) Looking to finish the meet strong are Alpharetta, New Machester and Stephenson. 

HJ- Another event that is wide open with 6 jumpers having season bests of 6-6. Devron Harper of Heritage HS comes in as the defending champ. Liban Ismael of Northview has a recent best of 6-6. 

LJ- The competition should be intense in the LJ with Jonathan Baker of Northview springing out to 24-7.50 at Sectionals. 3 others have went 23+ including Anthony Adams of Grovetown, Harper of Heritage and Jeric Montgomery from Dalton HS. 

TJ- The TJ will be no less competitive featuring Baker of Northview (48-10.25), Kevin Yang of Chattahoochee with a mark of 48-0. Jadis Dunigan of Morrow and Elijuan Singleton of Glynn will seek to raise their game and challenge for a Gold.

PV- Matt Asplund of Greenbrier is a heavy favorite with a pr bar of 15-9.It should be quite a battle for 2nd and 3rd with 6 other vaulters with bars of 14+. 

Shot- Watkins of Dacula may be the favorite with a sb of 56-6. Contending will be Marlone Taylor of Glynn Academy and Alex Majeed from Sequoyah.

Could be another low scoring affair as Cambridge HS may be the favorite after looking at the Virtual meet, it really depends on if Greenbrier, Dunwoody, Lovejoy and Alexander just q'd or held back for the State meet. 

100m- Kayla Hunt of MLK (11.79) is favored to take the Gold after placing 3rd in 2018. Her chief competition is Keyeria White from Valdosta HS and Alexis Williams of Lovejoy. 

200m- Alexis Williams of Lovejoy was smokin' at Sectionals with a time of 23.78  Hoping to run her down will be Hunt of MLK and White of Valdosta. 

400m- There are 5 athletes within :01 of each other in this event. Shatara Johnson of Charles Drew has the best pr at 55.90 followed by Joann Nguyen of Tucker, Dae'Nitra Hester of New Manchester, Naomi Joseph of Grovetown and Skye Chambers of Johns Creek.

800m- 7 athletes went sub 2:20 this Spring in 6A. The top time coming in is held by Riley Perlakowski of Harrison at 2:15.25  Jazzmin Taylor of Alexander should push for the win with Lauren Lewis of Langston Hughes and Kayla Gholar of Richmond Hill in that lead pack.

1600m- 4 girls are separated by 1.5 seconds in the 1600m. Perlakowski of Harrison and Ashley Sechrest of Cambridge HS have both posted 5:09s. Richmond Hill's duo of  Kayla Gholar and Kayla McGuire have both posted 5:10s. 

3200m- This is a 3 man race between XC Champ Makena Gates from Creekview (10:54), Sechrest of Cambridge and McKenna Croft from Douglas County. 

100h- Olivia Brown from Effingham County comes in peaking at 14.22 from Sectionals. Also under sub :15 are Kennedy R Crawford of Alexander and Mallory Lowe of Lovejoy. 

300h- Jasmine Jackson of Alpharetta has the top sb in this event at 43.93  Kennedy R. Crawford of Alexander is a couple strides back at 44.14 and Jahvene Walder of Dunwoody could challenge. 

4x100- Perfect Timing better crank up to max frame speed in this event as no less than 7 schools have sb's of sub :48 within .58 of each other. Greenbrier High School leads at 47.29 with Lovejoy back at 47.31 and MLK 47.50

4x400- This a huge event for team points as Alexander comes in with the top time of 3:54.34 with New Manchester, Cambridge and Morrow within striking distance. 

HJ-  Jazzmin Taylor of Alexander has a top bar of 5-9 this Spring, 5 other competitors have cleared 5-4. 

LJ- This is going to be the best LJ competition of all the GHSA meets as 6 gals have pr's of 18-9+, including leader Shatara Johnson of Drew HS (19-10) and Khiah Williams of Evans w/ a recent mark of 19-3.50

TJ- Should be a good battle in flight 2 and finals as 4 girls have an opportunity to win the Gold. Janaya Jones of Forest Park (39-6.5) and India Turk of Howard (38-10) were tops in 6A this season. 

PV- The vault may be one of the weaker events for class 6A. The top bars in 2019 belongs to a pair of Winder-Barrow athletes led by Brianna Bailey at 11-3 (school record) and Ticia King at 11-0. 

Shot- Janae Profit of Dunwoody has the top mark in the Shot this season at 42-6.5 from Region. Veteran Elsie Igberaese from Dacula pr'd at Sectionals at 41-10. Taylor Smith of Creekview could be a factor sitting at 40-6.75. 

Discus- 6A has 3 of the top throwers all-class in GA and all of them have beem very consistent. Madelyn Horne of Johns Creek already has produced an 'All-Tme' top 10 list mark of 151-4 in 2019. Igberaese from Dacula has a toss of 143-7 and Profit of Dunwoody has tossed a bomb of 142-4
