Davies Enjoys 2 State Records At USATF Juniors

Thelma Davies further cemented her legacy as Pennsylvania's greatest sprinter at this past weekend's USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Girard College sprinter, who just finished up her junior season ran to a pair of state records over the weekend. She broke her own previous state all-time bests and earned a spot in the Team USA relay pool for the World Junior squad heading to Finland.

On Friday, Davies went 11.51 in the prelims of the 100 meters before blasting an 11.42 in the final. That broke her own state record of 11.43, which she set at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last year. It was a final that included seven current collegians and Davies, the lone high schooler.

Davies came back on Saturday to run an incredible 23.10 in the prelims of the 200 meters. That also shattered Davies' own state record (23.49), which she ran at the PIAA District 1 Championships in May. The next closest wind-legal time in state history is Dasia Pressley's 23.52 (formerly the state record) from 2015.

Davies opted to scratch the 200 meter final on Sunday since her goal of making the relay pool for the U20 World team bound for Finland in July was already achieved. She'll head to Europe then next month.

It's already been an incredible junior year for Davies, who ran to her third straight double state titles in the PIAA Class AA 100 and 200 meters at the end of May. No Pennsylvania high school sprinter has ever been faster than Davies, and we've still got a full senior year left to go.
