Q & A with Sterling Lester of Marietta HS

Tell us about your experience and races at Arcadia this past weekend?

The Arcadia meet is always fun to compete in. The meet is huge and you always have great competition. I ran the 400 and did the heptathlon. Overall I think I did decent for the most part. I was hoping to do better but hey it's a lesson learned.

When did you first become interested in running track?

When I was about four my parents started me by putting me in a bunch or sports. They were
making me feel out what type of sport I wanted to play and track was more fun for me so I just
stuck with it.

What other sports have you played ?

I use to play basketball in middle school.

When did you realize, you had the talent to succeed in the sport? and who brought that to
your attention?

When I realized that I have the ability to be successful in track was when I was in middle school, I practiced with the high schoolers and I was beating most of the various athletes.

What is your favorite event and why?

I don't think I have a favorite event. I equally love the 400 and Heptathlon.

Do you plan on contesting the Multis in college?

Yes I do. I can't wait!!

Who has been your most influential person (besides a parent) in your Track career and why?

My brothers have been a huge influence in my track career and life. They would constantly
motivate me to be better and faster then them.

Do you compete in Indoor or Summer Club Track, and if not, why?

Yes I am on Marietta Track Club team. I have been running summer since I was younger.

What has been your favorite moment in your Track career thus far and why?

When my team went to the ESPN meet in Florida. We rented out a house and everyone stayed there. We had a good time...

What are your ultimate goals for the 2018 HS Outdoor Track season?

To stay healthy, and pr of course.

What is your favorite subject in school?

I don't really have one but I would have to say exercise physiology because of my teacher.

What is your favorite food?

Oxtails and rice.

How do you spend your 'off time' away from school and the track?

I normally just sleep and chill with my brother.

What Colleges pursuing you to compete for them already? Have you already signed an
LOI?

There have been quite a few colleges that have been trying to get me to run for them. My top
three schools actually are University of Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. I will sign on April
18th.

Do you follow MileSplit ?

I follow Milesplit on Instagram.

What advice would you offer to young kids and Middle schoolers concerning Track and
Field?

Don't give up when it gets hard. Be patient and have faith in yourself.
