Despite competing under unseasonably cold conditions for Texas in the 30s on Saturday morning, Hayden Baillio of Whitesboro (TX) seized the US #1 ranking in the shot put from fellow Texan Stephen Saenz with a throw of 68'7.50" at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays. Saenz, the Nike Indoor Nationals champion (Baillio was 2nd at NIN) and US indoor leader in the event, had thrown for a then US #1 mark on Friday at the Brownsville Meet of Champions. It should be a great throws competition when Baillio and Saenz meet for the first time this outdoor season.

With her 143'2" mark at the Lawrence/Mercer Relays, Lakeview (PA) junior Fawn Miller took over as an early national leader in the javelin throw. Miller's performance was closely followed this weekend by Ashley Aldredge from Cedar Creek of Louisiana with Aldredge's throw of 143'1" at the LSU Relays. It is an interesting blend of states which are represented among the top ranked in the event with Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Oregon boasting the top three female javel throwers in the nation currently.
