Dekalb County in Georgia is proving itself to be a hotbed for national caliber high school track & field performances as shown by the results from day one of competition at their county championships on Monday. Three US #1 performances came out of the meet on Monday with more action to follow through final day of events on Wednesday.
Brittany Porter of Towers High School has been on a tear in the girls' long jump since her win at Nike Indoor Nationals as she extended her previous US leading outdoor mark to 21 feet and 3 1/2 inches, while also taking the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet.
Miller Grove High School and Ken Gilstrap were rolling out some blazing times to start the week as well as Gilstrap improved his US #1 time (10.39) in the 100 meter dash to 10.31 in the prelims, while also clocking in the nation's fastest time of the season in the 200 meter dash as the first under 21 seconds at 20.98 in the preliminary round. Gilstrap also ran on Miller Grove's 4x100 meter relay which became the first school under 41 seconds in the country at 40.98 in the prelims.
Another Grove school, Cedar Grove, also posted a swift relay time in Monday's qualifying rounds in the boys 4x400 meter relay at a US #2 3:16.12.
