8th at Carrollton Orthopedic Invite… 18:15 Average.. Coach Mike Beaudreau’s top six all were at Coach Benson’s Smoky Mountain camp this summer and that has translated into a strong start for the Lions. They are the clear favorite to return to the top of the podium come Friday November 3rd. They are currently led by sophomore Ethan Selph who ran 17:38 on the tough Carrollton layout. He will contend for All-State individual honors this season. Hebron’s 2-5 runners have only a 48 second gap so right now they are the dominant team in this classification. Note: This is a young team that could contend for All-Class Top 10 in future years.

As usual for Coach Thorn he likes places runners in both Varsity and JV races at the beginning of seasons. Freshmen Phenom Zach Truitt is one of the top freshmen in all classifications. He will contend for the individual Single A Private championship this fall. Landmark is the defending State Champions and hopefully will run their full squad at Wingfoot or the Asics Invite.

Coach McDaniel’s squad missed the State Meet in 2016 and seem to be on a mission this summer/fall. They have two kids in the 17s with three other kids in the 18s already. They make the biggest jump in the rankings this week and will be a podium contender come the State Meet.

10th @ Double Dip Invite…. Results are still being worked on for Double Dip (especially by Coach Ford of East Paulding) but right now Athens Academy looks to be a potential podium team. They had three runners under 18 minutes at the Coach Benson Invite. They are led by Junior Alex Branch and Senior Ryan Iyer who both have top 10 potential come November 3rd.

3rd @ Carrollton Orthopedic Invite…. 19:38 Team Average…. May not have raced everyone this weekend. This squad has the potential to reach the podium but this 3rd to 8th at the State Meet will be very close.
6
@ Coach Benson Double Dip Invite: They ran half their squad in various races at Marist this past Saturday. Their number one has not debuted over 5K yet so this team moves to number 6 for now this week. Very interested in seeing this squad at full strength.

Off…. In the Virtual Meet they are number one. However, they did run on one of the fastest courses in the State so Wingfoot and/or Darlington will show how good this team can be. They were third in Single A Private last November so they have the pedigree to be back.

Still waiting on Coach Benson results to be fixed this team has rebounded from the graduation of State 16/8 Champion Ben Davies along with 2016 State 800 runner-up Zach Henry. They will be racing next weekend down in Macon on one of the 4 Area Meet courses (Georgia Children’s Home). Junior Porter Null and Senior Blake Morain lead the way for the Golden Bears.

13th currently @ The Coach Benson Invite: Results are still being finalized for Saturday but Paideia is a definite threat to the Super 6 this fall at the State Meet. Their biggest issue along with other Area 3 teams will be to qualify for the State Meet (in Single A Private only 16 teams toe the line at State). Their biggest advantage is 2015 State XC Champion Griffin McCauley who returns this fall and is 100 percent healthy. So far, he has run 16:13 on the Georgia Meet of Champions course.

No results this week but look for them to show some strong results as we approach the annual Darlington Invite on their campus. This year that meet will be held on September 30th. This squad could surprise some people this year and move into the Super 6 by November.
