5th Annual Mill Run Preview

5th Annual Mill Run to Host Largest Field Ever

Douglasville, Georgia

The 5th Annual Mill Run, hosted by Chapel Hill High School, will take place this Saturday at the Boundary Waters Recreational Complex in Douglasville. The promise of great weather and a fast – albeit untested – new course suggest some quality competition.

Headlining this year’s field on the girls side are Alpharetta (ranked 3rd All-Class), Peachtree Ridge (7th All-Class but not running at full strength here), Roswell (9th All-Class) and Etowah (10th All-Class). AAAA’s Starr’s Mill (ranked 4th in 4A) and Whitewater (7th in 4A) will offer a nice pre-State matchup, while single A top teams Our Lady of Mercy and Landmark Christian will also wage a good mid-season battle.

In the boy’s team race, it looks like Chapel Hill (7th All-Class) and Westminster (8th All-Class) will vie for top honors, although Etowah (10th in AAAAA) looks ready to challenge as well. Northgate (3rd in AAAA) and Starr’s Mill (5th in AAAA) will bring strong teams, while A powerhouse Our Lady of Mercy (2nd in A) will make the short trip over from Fairburn.

Individually, the girl’s title seems to be up for grabs with Jackie Sample (Starr’s Mill), Ashley Stovall (Chapel Hill), Jessica Borchert and Dylan Hassett (both from Alpharetta), Emily McNutt (Etowah) and Andrea Raville (OLM) all having run strong early season times. Chattahoochee rests its varsity this week so Sydney Marshall will not be in the line-up.

Chapel Hill’s Taylor Lord seems to be the favorite on the boys side, although a strong group is right behind him. Vermond Walker (Lithia Springs), Blake Kennedy (Alpharetta), Adam Chapman and Alex Merrall (both of Etowah), Andrew Lagasse (Roswell), Wade Voyles (Chapel Hill), Mohamed Egal (Westminster) and the Lethbridges of OLM have all run well this year.
