Andrew Kent of Lakeside Executes Strategy Perfectly Stealing the 6A 1600 Title

6A- Someone nearly took this race wire to wire, but another individual executed their strategy perfectly. Not sure if there was ever a clear favorite pre-race, but Jonathan Schwind of Lambert HS ran a 'Prefontainish' race from the gun. This was by far, the most 'Collegiate/Pro' flavored race of the 1600's as the entire field stayed in contact thru much of the race, with the top 7 going sub 4:20 and everyone sub 4:29. It seemed as if Andrew Kent of Lakeside DeKalb (watching the video) kept backing off the Start line going over something inside his head (many of the guys were getting quite antsy in anticipation of the gun, like race horses at the Kentucky Derby, as delayed Field Events Awards kept being presented. Schwind of Lambert, immediately took the lead and led the barbarian horde thru the 1st split at a respectable 1:05, though all remained in contact... Davis Stockwell of Lakeside DeKalb, settled in behind Schwind on lap 2 along with Khayvonn Benson of Marietta and Jack Bluth from Milton. The field stayed in contact thru the 800m, with Schwind splitting a 2:11 as the race began to favor those with 400m speed now. The contenders with 1000m left, consisted of 10 runners within 7m of each other as Schwind valiantly held onto the lead. Andrew Kent was comfortably 7th, maybe 5m back With 800m to go, Schwind was being dogged by no other than Chance Roe from Lowndes County! With around 600m left, Kent began his kick moving into 3rd a few meters behind the leaders...The final lap was poetic, as Schwind made a big move with 200m left gapping Roe a bit, but hold on Bobalouie... Kent shifted into another gear with 150m left and his long strides began to eat up the Mondo the final 100m, as he overtook Schwind less than 10m from the finish line winning in 4:13.07. Schwind has to commended on a great race winning Silver at 4:13.50, and what about Chance Roe from way down South in Lowndes County taking Bronze in 4:14.73!
