Maynard Jackson Hangs Tough Defending their 3A Title

Taryn O'Neal picked up Maynard Jackson's 1st Gold during Saturday Finals.

The Jaguars repeated as State Champs, but it wasn't without a challenge, as they only had a 5 point lead going into the 4x400 relay. Maynard Jackson had alot of work to do on Saturday, as they were not on the old scoreboard yet, with only 14.2 points. But, they turned on the jets scoring 12 points in the 4x100 taking Silver and their B squad added a 5th. Then, Taryn O'Neal added another Gold winning the 400m in 56.49.

They had to wait until the 100h for another chance to score, where Ryah Jackson placed 3rd at 15.89 with China Waldord a stride back in 4th. The duo continued to keep the Jaguars in the hunt for a title placing 6th/7th in the 300h giving Jackson a 5 point lead going into the 4x400, where they wrapped up the title adding relay Gold in a time of 3:56.55.

Blessed Trinity gave a valiant effort at Hugh Mills, and actually led the meet much of Saturday. The Titans challenged until the end, finishing just a few meters behind Maynard in the 4x400. Leading the Titans efforts were Mary Claire Solomon who won the 3200m (upset) over Audrey Honiotes with a pr of 10:53.58 and took Bronze in the 1600 posting a 5:08.11. Solomon was also a key cog on the 4x400 squad that raced to Silver. Emma Rose Bagwell added a Bronze in the 3200 and 5th in the 1600, Maddie Heller raced to 3rd in a competitive 800m race, Madeleine Iassogna added a 5th in the 400m. Scoring on the Field were: Elizabeth Tenoschok with a bar of 5-2 in HJ for 3rd place, Alyssa Kuroski took 5th in the Discus and Mary Kate Kriscovich added 1.2 in the PV.


Victoria Flowers of Westminster (r) gave Morales a run for her money in the 800m Finals.

Westminster hustled into 3rd place Overall with 46 points led by Victoria Flowers who nearly pulled a big upset in the 800m taking Silver in 2:15.82 and added another posting a 5:04 in the 1600. The Cats added 13 more points in the distance events behind Naima Turbes (5th-800) Carson Simon (7th-1600), Gabby Bunnell took 5th in the 3200 and Charlotte Folinus 6th. Westminster rang up 17 in the Vault with Claire Cotton seizing Gold clearing 9-6 and Lindsay Vincent tied for 2nd place.


Westside Macon leans for the win in the 4x100 Relay

Westside Macon may have placed their highest in recent school history coming in 4th Overall with 43 points. Leading the Noles' were Zoe Jordan who bounded to 1st place in the TJ with a mark of 37-11.25 (added a 5th in the 200m). Westside outraced Maynard in the 4x100 to add another Gold medal clocking a 48.21. Iycis Hammock added 12 points in the Hurdles scoring Silver in the 300h at 44.34 & 5th in the 100h. Scoring in the Discus was Deashia Carson-Hall as she tossed the steel orb 36-10 securing a Bronze medal. 2015 Champ Cedar Grove finished 5th overall.


Sue Ann Morales wins the first of her 2 Golds in the 1600m.

There were a bevy of other doubles in AAA, including Sue Ann Morales of East Jackson doubled in the 1600m (4:59.76) and 800m, where she really got pushed by Flowers of Westminster eeking out a photo finish win at 2:15.61..Halimah Barlow of Frederick Douglass doubled in the short sprints with winning times of 12.16 and 24.45. Tyreon Coleman from Butler (Augusta) had a double as well, firts winning the LJ at 18-02 and then won the 100h clocking a 15.50.

Halimah Barlow of Frederick Douglass ('D') swept the 100 and 200 meter races.
