4A Girls State Meet Preview

Its no mistake that Monroe Albany is in position to add another Girls State title to their long resume this weekend when you look at all the Nationally ranked athletes they boast. If the Lady Tornadoes perform well as usual, in front of their rowdy home fans on their home track, the battle will be for the next 3 team Podium positions. Marist remains strong after losing their 2 best athletes and is a favorite to push Monroe at least thru the 800 meters Saturday.  Expect Chamblee and Woodward Academy to pick up many points in Field Events and have enough left Saturday to crack the Podium as a team. Fayette, Eagle's Landing, Mary Persons and Baldwin may pop up on the old traditional manual scoreboard Saturday.

Best events to watch, will be all the Sprints as they will be very competitive and close (dial up the fps Phil) Betty Jackson of Eagle's Landing HS is the odds on favorite to take the 800m with a pr of 2:15. Josie Wirtz of Marist looks solid to double in the 1600/3200. It will be great to watch Jenna Gearing of White County back on the track after her XC State misfortune (breaking a leg) and she deserves some applause for making such a quick comeback. Both Hurdles events look like photo finishes looking at pr's.

On the Field, Woodward's Makenli Forrest is a beast in both throws. Imani Carmouche of Mt.Zion Jonesboro is nationally ranked with a best bar of 5-10. Nailah Moore of Fayette will take a crack at going 40+ in the TJ and Alex Potts of Woodward leads 4A in the Vault with a bar of 11-7.
