6A Girls State Meet Preview

The 6A Girls Championship could come down to the final event of the meet. It will feature great distance and sprint races. The top 3 contenders for team titles after Region/Sectionals appears to be Westlake, McEachern and Brookwood. Look for Dacula to have a big lead after Field Events, but on Saturday, Westlake and McEachern's presence will be felt immediately.

The 6A 200 & 4x4. Maybe, 4 sub 24 girls in the 200 & 24.50 or less just to make the finals. It may take 3:54-3:55 just to make the finals in the 4x400 as well. I'd wager that a lot of 12-flat 100m girls decided to move up to the 200/400 over the last 2-3 years, which is why we're seeing great front-runners & depth in the 400 lately. Girls 6-A 400m is going to be insane, too. Two sub 53's this year, several under 56, and few flirting with it.

The 6A girls' 800 is loaded for bear. 12 girls enter with PR's between 2:10 and 2:17 There won't be much relaxing in prelims, as everyone will have to make sure their strategy works best....We may see the girls 800m All-Time record pushed/broken this season, possibly by multiple classifications.

In the distance events, a great group of seniors (Billings, Carnahan, Burr, Gomez) who have been at or near the front for all 4 years. Will be fun to see them race against the young guns and we get to watch Billings vs Carnahan go at it 2 last times (if they don't compete at The Meet of Champions or Wingfoot Mile. Gomez has turned it up several notches this year and Burr closing at the end of the 1600 could make things very exciting. If any of them falter there will be plenty of podium hopefuls bearing down on them.
