Savannah Carnahan from South Forsyth HS placed 8th at Foot Locker South punching her ticket to Foot Locker Nationals held in San Diego, Cali on 12/12. Carnahan's numerous battles this season with Lindsay Billings paid huge dividends Saturday as she clocked a 17:34 and held off 3 competitors after the final turn coming down the stretch. I knew going in that I wanted to go out a little slower than the lead pack, while not getting caught in the crowd. I was right where I wanted to be coming off the 1000m straightaway, and, with a small pack, began working my way up and closing on the chase pack. Around the hill, I passed the back of the chase pack, as the other half of my pack and the chase pack broke away from me. The last mile was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, and I was just hoping to hold my place through the finish line. I heard footsteps coming around the lake and, assuming it was three people, killed myself to hold them off through the finish line.
