GAINESVILLE, Ga. | In a tightly-contested race, SCAD Atlanta edged the University of North Georgia women's cross country team by a single point to claim the team title of the third Annual UNG Invitational hosted on Saturday morning on the UNG Cross Country course. The Bees' team total of 66 was just a single point ahead of the two-time defending champion Nighthawks' score of 67.
UNG's
Brittany Truitt was the Nighthawks' top finisher crossing the line with a time of 23:11, which was good for sixth place out of 170 runners.
Jenna Tilton (23:54) and
Caitlin Connell (23:57) finished 12
th and 13
th respectively.
Alyssa Sheffield (24:09, 18
th) and
Brianna Moring (24:15, 21
st) rounded out the team scoring for head coach
Tom Williams' team as the duo each posted top-25 finishes.
Dalton State's Emily Poole won the women's 6K race with a time of 22:41.
Dalton State defended their championship from a year ago, edging out runner-up UNC Pembroke by 10 points, 42-52.
DSC's Spencer Head won the men's race for the second consecutive year as he bettered the 8K meet record by 28 seconds, crossing the line in 25:26.
The two race fields featured over 320 runners from 22 women's teams and 20 men's squads. The contest served as the preview to the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Championship that UNG will host on October 24.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Wingate Bulldog Stampede as the Nighthawks get to preivew the site of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional meet.
