Fulton County Championships Meet Preview

Attached & below and feel free to edit as best seems fit.

The Fulton County Public Schools T&F Championships will be hosted by Milton HS for the first time and will showcase some very strong sprinting races for both the boys & the girls along with outstanding distance athletes. Field events will be contested only on Saturday and should see some outstanding performs as well.

In the team race, the ladies of North Springs & the Lions of Westlake look to be the odds-on favorites and it could come down to the 4x400 to settle the title with both teams sub-3:55 and maybe sub-3:50! The prelims on Saturday will set that matchup for Monday evening.

The boys team race could be a 3-way affair with well-rounded Roswell facing a sprint-depth Westlake and a solid distance crew from Milton. The field events will play a huge roll in determining the team champion with great throwers representing the Eagles of Milton, great jumpers on the Westlake squad & solid performers in all the events from Roswell.

Some events to keep an eye on:

Girls 400m

North Springs depth is here with both Micaiah Ransby & Lauren Jacksothat have sub-56.75 clockings followed by Westlake’s Jenee Nichols. The stadium record of 57.97 may fall on Monday!

Girls 1600m

With Northview’s Lindsey Billings in the field a fast time is assured no matter the conditions. Her PR of 5:06.31 is faster than the stadium mark of 5:08.28 but she may have company from Roswell’s Rachel VanAmburgh (5:07.58) and the fast-improving Riley Burr of Milton who upset VanAmburgh at Woodstock 2 weeks ago.

Girls 4x100 & 4x400

Westlake & North Springs clash heaviest in these events as BOTH schools top-squads are within a few ticks of each other and both squads have season bests faster than both stadium marks of 47.44 & 3:58.88! Sure to be a barn-burner!

Throws & Jumps

Westlake looks to be the dominate team in both Long & Triple jumps led by Mia Phillips & Anriel Howard & John’s Creek has the throws covered by ace Hayden Merrick.

Boys 400m

Why the 400m & not the 100m & 200m, well that’s the individual event Ryan Clark of Banneker (the US #1 in the 100 & 200m) is running (along with 4x100 & maybe 4x400). His 46.72 from last July leads all entrants & is a full 1.3 seconds faster than the stadium mark set in 2009.

Boys 800m/1600m/3200m

The distance races are mentioned here to show the strength of the host school Eagles of Milton. Having the top-2 seeds in the 800m (Jack Bluth & Michael McCarthy), the 1st & 3rd seeds in the 1600m (Preston Meade & Connor Cole) & the 1st & 4th seeds in the 3200m (Connor Cole & Preston Meade) Milton could sweep the distance races including the 4x800 as they are the top-seed with a season’s best & school record mark (8:00.71) that leads the next best squad by 25+ seconds.

Jumps

Tyson Spears of Roswell, who will also run the 100m, is the Long Jump favorite. Langston Hughes counters with 6’8” high jumper Montavious Atkinson. Johns’ Creek has 2 vaulters seeded in the top-3. Tri-Cities triple jumper Joseph Richardson leads his event.

Throws

The host Milton Eagles have depth here as well with Corey Claiborne-Landy the top seed by a wide margin in BOTH discus & shot. The Eagles also have Chase Hooper in the shot & Quin Lyles-Woods in the discus that should score in the top-4 to keep them in the team title hunt.
