Former Rowan County Star Shelley DeHarte Named Gulf South Frosh of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-After a strong performance in the San Francisco State Invitational, the Christian Brothers University cross country teams swept the Gulf South Conference Freshman Runner of the Week Awards this week, with Hannah Owen (Rogers, Ark., Heritage HS) winning the women's award for the second consecutive week and Shelley DeHarte (Morehead, Ky., Rowan County HS) winning the men's award for the first time.
 
Owen set a school and personal record with a 6k time of 23:19 in the SFSU Invitational as she finished 38th overall. She also won last week's Freshman of the Week award after her performance in the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
DeHarte ran a personal-best 26:58 in the men's 8k race, finishing 79th in a strong field. He is CBU's first runner to win the men's Freshman of the Week award.
