Girls 6A State Preview

                                                Girls 6A State Preview

It all comes down to Westlake and McEachern for the 6A state title and Westlake has the upper hand in both relays with multiple teams. We should have a glimpse of how things are shaping up by watching the prelims. Only the top athletes will be able to back down and coast before the finish line (except for these 2) Westlake has 19 opportunities to score which is unheard of in 6A with all the great athletes in this class. McEachern has 12 which is quite strong. Marietta, Archer, Peachtree Ridge, Brookwood and Rockdale County are Podium contenders.

Individually, the racing in 6A is going to be something to behold and remember, so bring your cameras and camcorders post footage on ga.milesplit Sunday or before.  There has been several shooting stars this season (frosh) and Candace Hill of Rockdale County has been the brightest running effortlessly, high steppin' , feet hardly touching the track surface. Her 11.51 in the 100m is #10 in the USA, but her 23.34 is way up there at 2nd in the MileSplit National rankings for the short Sprints making her almost untouchable, but that's why we run the races..Cierra Dunston of McEachern HS is #7 the national rankings cranking out a 54.39 at Sectionals with teamate MaKenzie Dunmore a step back at #9 in 54.49 (what an incredible duo!) The 800m race girls better watch their backs and make sure to qualify. Mary Jean Assinzo of Marietta HS owns the top time in 2:13.94.  Shanel Burr (sr) has been a top hurdler for several seasons and will try to hold off Jirah Simpkins of Berkmar and Natisha Dixon of Wheeler. If one is a 'MileSplit Insider' you know how tight the 300 Hurdles are going to be as 7 girls have pr's within less than a second apart with Dixon holding the best time at 43.02. The Relays will be off the chain in prelims and Finals with top contenders McEachern and Westlake in control by a few strides.

Out on the Field Friday some titanic battles will be fought for major points. Mia Phillips of Westlake is a player in the LJ with a pr of 18-11. In the HJ several Girls have cleared at least 5-4 and it may come down to fewer misses unless someone 'rises up'.  The TJ competition will be equally intense with Bolu Hambolu having the top mark this Spring in 38-3. Big points are at stahe for Westlake in this event as well..Katelyn Utely from Tift County has cleared 12-0 in the PV this Spring and has to be pegged as the favorite. Leena Morris of Etowah will be attempting to double in the Throws events, but may face some competition from Hayden Merrick of John's Creek and Staceyanna Murrell from Tift.

The most intense distance races will come from 6A. All these girls waltzed thru Sectionals and will be primed to race Thursday/Friday evening...and best of all, in cool temps for Albany! (around 65-70) Addie Lippitt of Peachtree Ridge has the top time this Spring in the 1600 at 5:05.42  In the 3200 Savannah Carnahan of South Forsyth has went 10:56 and Avery Bussjager from Walton 10:58 and there will be a bevy of conditioned girls chasing and in contention.
