Steve Prettyman
Coach
The pressure was on for Chattahoochee Tech both on the track and off at the GA Tech Invitational. The Men's 4 x 400 team was 1 second short of qualifying for nationals. The deadline for entries for nationals was 7pm Saturday. The 4 x 400 was scheduled for 5:50pm. However, due to an injury in a previous race, the event was delayed. Head Coach Steve Prettyman (who took part of the team to Shorter Relays) return to school and was sitting in the local McDonald's (free WIFI) waiting on the results. Good thing that GA Tech had live results. The men's 4 x 400 finished at 6:55PM (or thats when the results showed up). With quick typing Coach Prettyman was able to enter the CTC 4 x 400 relay into the national meet (by 6:58pm) with a amazing six second improvement to 3:13.69 (7th at GA Tech) to complete the roster for nationals.
Twenty four athletes are heading to nationals to represent the Golden Eagles, by far the most ever (six participated last year). CTC has had an amazing season with every Men's school record broken except for the 1500, 3000, 5000, 10000 (all held by Kenyan athletes). The Women's team has also broken 2/3 of their records and won the super region championship on April 28th. The men were a close second to Lon Morris.
Best of luck to the team as they travel to nationals in Levelland, TX for the meet on May 15th through the 17th.
