2012 Cobb County Championships Preview

Girls Preview:

The girls team race should see the Lady Raiders of Walton regaining their county title they lost last year to Lady Hoyas of Harrison.  Walton comes in ranked #1 All-class and is very balanced through their top 7.  The Harrison girls are ranked #10 All-class and should put up a good fight as they have run well this season despite loosing 6 of the 7 girls who led them to a county title last fall.  Lassiter, Pope (#10 in AAAAA) and Marietta should be fighting for a team trophy as well.  Individually the due of Lassiter are the top threats with Marcie Merriman coming back as the defending champ, but her teammate Morgan Ainslie has had the better of her so far this season.  If a Lady Trojan doesn't win, expect the biggest challenge to come from Alexa Womack of Walton.  Tyra Holloway of North Cobb, Emily Dunn of Allatoona, Claire Warren of Hillgrove, Emily Duvaris of Harrison and a host of Walton Raiders should battle it out for the top 10 positions.

Boys Preview:

The Blue Devils from Marietta come into county as the favorite with a #3 All-class ranking.  They looked very good at Great American and will try to continue that at the Corp Property.  Walton is ranked #10 All-class and will be without their #2 runner Brian Sullivan for at least another week or two, but the Raiders have good depth and can still compete for the crown.  Pope (#5 AAAAA) would like to spoil the party for both Marietta and Walton, as would Allatoona (#10 AAAAA) and a very underated Harrison team.  Individually, with defending champion Sullivan sidelined this weekend, Ben Pleak of Marietta and Kenan Farmer of Walton should be leading the way for the title.  Marietta's Jake Bagwell, Pope's Patrick Sullivan, Walton's RJ Torres, and the always dangerous kick of Wheeler's Adel Yoonis should make the second pack a tight battle.  The rest of the top 10 could go to a slew of runner from Marietta, Wheeler, Walton, Kennesaw Mountain, and Lassiter.
