Ga Athletes Excel at USATF Junior National Championships
Georgians had an OUTSTANDING weekend of competition on the national level at the USA Track & Field Junior National (19 & under) Championships. Winning National titles were Coffee County sensation Tyreek Hill as he doubled in the 100 and 200m races clocking impressive times of 10.28 (-1.8 headwind) and 20.57. Hill automatically earned a spot on Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Kirubel Errassa formerly of Grayson also captured a title winning the 5000 meters in 14:28.00! Shelby Ashe (also a St. Pius grad) continued her domination in the Hammer Throw taking the gold with a sling of 223-06. Morgan Snow had the meet of her life as she slashed her way over the hurdles to a National title against a headwind (-1.8) 13.26 in the 100h. Nikita Kirilov of Ga Tech (a St.Pius grad) won the Pole Vault competition with a clearance of 5.54m (18-02)
Torie Owers of Athens Academy was runnerup in the Shot Put with a mark of 50-4.75. Kell's Kendell Williams placed 2nd in the Heptathlon with 5,481 points as well as 4th in the LJ at 19-10.75.(18-02) Jordan Moore of MLK placed 4th in the 110 hurdles in 13.85 (-1.8w) Erika Rucker formerly of Flowery Branch placed 2nd in the 400 meters clocking a smokin' 52.27 with MLK's Felecia Brown back in 5th at 53.11. Michael Newton of Sprayberry clocked a 46.99 for 6th also in the 400 meters.
