AMHERST, N.Y. - Senior Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) placed sixth in a field of 240 runners at Saturday's NCAA Northeast Region Championship. His sixth-place finish in 31:31 earned him All-Northeast Region honors and helped the Dartmouth men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish with 182 points.

Shaw, who won the 2011 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships just two weeks ago, led the Big Green contingent on the 10K Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, N.Y., a suburb south of Buffalo.

Iona's Leonard Korir won the race, crossing the line in 31:10. The Gaels' senior harrier might have won the individual title, but Syracuse edged them out for first place in the team standings, 54-72. The Orange and Gaels will both head to Terre Haute, Ind., with automatic spots in the NCAA Championships.

Shaw will also be heading to Terre Haute as the top four finishers from the non-automatic qualifiers also advance to the NCAA Championships. Shaw was the third runner not from Iona or Syracuse, earning him one of those four spots.

After Shaw, sophomore John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) was the next Dartmouth runner to finish, doing so in 22nd place with a time of 32:03. Not far behind was senior Brad Kenimer (Alexandria, Va.) in 27th in a time of 32:16.

Sophomore Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and junior Jonathan Gault (Bedford, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Big Green on this day. Mangan was 60th in 32:50, while Gault finished the 10K course in 32:57 for 67th overall.

The Big Green also saw sophomore Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) and junior Adam Doherty (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) run Saturday afternoon.  Sterling's 33:29 was good for 97th, while Doherty's 33:55 placed him 125th.

Dartmouth's sixth-place overall finish beat out the hosts from Buffalo, who finished seventh with 215 points. Columbia was third with 96 points, while Brown had 178 to earn fifth. Cornell's 216 points had them in eighth, while Yale was 11th (386), Harvard was 15th with 425 and New Hampshire was 21st (559) on Saturday.
