Lamar sweeps team titles at NSU All-Comers cross country meet

NATCHITOCHES -- Renee Graham led a string of seven Lamar runners across the finish line Friday as the Lady Cardinals posted a perfect score of 15, then Danny Shaw\'s win in the men\'s race started Lamar to a sweep of the team titles at the Northwestern State Cross Country All-Comers Meet.


Graham covered the 4,000-meter course in 14:23.1 to win the women\'s individual crown by 15 seconds. Shaw posted a 19:15.3 clocking over 6,000 meters, taking the men\'s title by a 34-second margin.


Meet host Northwestern was second in the women\'s team standings and sixth in a seven-team field in the men\'s race starting and finishing at the NSU Soccer Complex on campus.


The Lady Demons\' Margeaux Fisher was the first non-Lamar runner to finish, taking eighth place in 16:05.8, just ahead of teammate Abby Salomon (16:06.4) and Jasmine Collins of Louisiana-Lafayette.


Lamar\'s perfect score in the women\'s team standings topped 59 points for Northwestern, 82 for Louisiana-Lafayette, 146 by Centenary and 165 from Louisiana Tech. Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana did not finish five runners to record scores.


In the men\'s race, Lamar won with 31 points, followed by Southeastern (61), Stephen F. Austin (79), ULL (86), Centenary (108) and Northwestern (132). Nicholls did not post a score.


Following Fisher and Salomon on the Lady Demons\' scorecard were Ruth Kinyanjui (11th, 16:30.0), Ashley Terrell (12th, 16:32.6) and Lesley Lambert (19th, 17:06.3).


For the Demons, the top finisher was Steve Kemei, 15th in 20:56.7. Chris Pearson ran 21:03.1 for 21st place, followed on the Northwestern scorecard by Aaron Heflin (29th, 21:52.7), Gideon Rotich (33rd, 22:24.5) and Phillip Hattaway (34th, 22:32.0).
