Oconee Boys hold off St. Pius at Spartan Invitational

When the results were announced, you could see the disapopintment on the faces of the Oconee runners. Through a scoring error, St. Pius was originally announced as the winners of the Spartan Invitational. After some careful checking, it was discovered that the boys from Oconee had indeed won, thanks in part to the effort of Bradley Thomas. St. Pius\'s top 4 runners all placed ahead of their Oconee counterparts as Trevor Sprague finished ahead of Eric Kellough, 17:08 to 17:13. Matt Hickey posted a 17:29 to Jarryd Wallace\'s 17:43. Geoff Pratt also finished well for St. Pius, going 17:54 to Andy Miller\'s 17:55 and Rich Rubio went 17:59 to Kirk Carter\'s 18:00. But Bradley Thomas was able to finish in 18:13 well ahead of St. Pius\'s #5, giving Oconee the win as the #2 team from AAA was able to hold off the #2 ranked team from AAAA. Our Lady of Mercy held off Blessed Trinity for 3rd place by a mere 6 points despite Josh Houser\'s win over Jake Lethbridge by 6 seconds, 16:58 to 17:04. Josh Deaton, of the host Spartans, captured 3rd in 17:07.
