FINAL RESULTS

The Bowling Green State University track and field team continued their outdoor season on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Mich. by competing at the Jack Shaw Invitational, a four-team event hosted by Western Michigan University.

According to head coach Cami Wells, the majority of the meet was conducted in a cold rain and heavy winds.  However, the weather conditions did not deter Falcon athletes from completing another positive outing.  In all, BGSU compiled victories in two events and had a second- or third-place finisher in eight others.

In the field portion of the meet, both senior Sabrina Forstein and freshman Tatijana Jacobson repeated victories in their respective events.

Forstein won the pole vault by posting a mark of 10-00 (3.05m), almost a half-foot better than than her nearest competition.  Meanwhile, Jacobson recorded a leap of 5-05.75 (1.67m) to win the high jump.

The Orange and Brown recorded second-place finishes in three other field events.

Junior Brittani McNeal's jump of 18-06.50 (5.65m) scored seven points for BGSU in the long jump, while fellow junior Rachel Doughty added four points on a fifth-place jump.

Paige Lane, another Falcon junior, hurled the javelin over 102 feet (31.20m) to place second in the javelin throw.  Like McNeal, Lane added seven points to the Falcons' total.  Megan Niehaus also scored in the event.

In the discus, freshman Brooke McCombs had a toss of 134-01 to earn her second-place mark and seven points.  Ashley Harris also earned a top-five finish in the discus with a throw of 125-10.

McCombs and Harris put up points in two other events for Bowling Green.  Harris scored with a sixth-place throw in the shot put, while McCombs in both the shot put and hammer throw with fourth- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.  Both McCombs (151-02; 46.08m) and Harris (149-06; 45.56m) recorded personal bests in the hammer throw.

Freshman Kristin Boettcher had the team's best finish in the hammer throw.  After a toss of 47.78m last week, Boettcher posted a mark of 50.12m (164-05) on Saturday; that score resulted in third-place and six points for the Falcons.

Rounding out the scoring for field events was junior Shannon Laseak in the triple jump.  Her leap of 31-06 (9.60m) took fourth-place and scored five points.

In the track events, junior Heather Conger found more success in the 800 meters.  After winning that race last week in Toledo, Conger took second place this time.  However, she recorded a personal best time of 2:14.60 and earned another seven points for the Falcons.  Sophomore Saisha Gaillard finished fifth.

BGSU featured third-place finishers in three other races.  In the 1500 meters, Autumn Dettmann recorded a time of 4:56.36 to score six points for Bowling Green.  Another six points were added by Ashley Fischer, who completed the 3000 meters in 10:40.96.  Also, the BGSU "A" 4x400 relay team placed third.

Barbara Powers (5th, 1500m) and Abby Koch (6th, 3000m) also earned points for the Orange and Brown.

In the short-distance races, freshman Jessica Grant used fifth and sixth place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters to earn a total of eight points.  Felicia Jefferson (4th, 200m) and Jeanette Pettigrew (6th, 100m) combined to add nine points to BGSU's total.

Meanwhile, junior Rachael Doughty slogged through the rain to record a sixth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.  Her time of 17.17 earned four points.

Paige Lane and Danielle Thornton (400m Dash) and the Falcons' 4x100 relay team rounded out the team's scoring.

In total, Bowling Green scored 140 points for the day.  Western Michigan (225.50) won the meet, while Eastern Michigan (154.50) placed second and Central Michigan (62) placed fourth.

The Falcons next action will take place on Saturday, April 10 in Athens, Ohio at the Ohio University Women's Team Challenge.  The 19-event meet will begin at noon.
