2018 XC Kicks Off this Week

New Season Ready for Starting Gun

The 2018 Cross Country season will take off in the Metro-NE GA area on Thursday at the Winder-Barrow 2 Mile Tune Up. 2 meets are slated on 8/14 with the Upson-Lee Relays and the MCSD meet (Columbus) Official XC practices began on Monday 7/30 with some schools actually starting classes on 8/1, such as the Oconee County schools.

The first weekend of meets (which we will refer to) as Week 1, 14 Invitationals will be held around the state, with 11 being hosted in the Metro area, and 2 in south of the gnat line in Perry all the way down to 'Winnersville' in Valdosta. The larger of which are: Peachtree Ridge Stage Races at Chattahoochee Point Parke; Zack Wansley Clash held at Boundary Waters Complex; Mercy Invite at OLM; Into the Trail Invitational at Locust Grove HS; Kosh Classic at Westminster; and Midstate Cross Classic  down in Perry.

It has been a brutal Summer of heat for training, with most squads (that put in LSD runs) having to run early in the morning. The first week of meets one should not expect to see alot of blazing times, but be more of an indicator of who trained this Summer. The forecast for Saturday in the ATL area is for slightly cooler temps, but thunder boomers are projected currently at 80%.

We wil try to look at some class outlooks in the next 5 days based on returning runners and some inside info. Good luck to everyone this Fall! The first Team Rankings will be after Week 3 competition and Labor Day Weekend. Runners of the Week will begin after Week 1.
