Monroe Girls Heat Up the Track, Cedar Grove Boys 4-Peat

J'Milyah Poole winning the 400m

It was a tale of 3 track and field powers down in Albany, could Monroe pull it off and defeat the metro powers. The Tornadoes blew thru finals Saturday scoring 100 points to best a very strong GAC squad by 18.5 points. Monroe began the day in the 4x100 scoring 14 points, taking 2nd (46.71) and 3rd (48.40) J'Milya Poole  won Gold in the 400m at 55.01 and Camielle Milledge placed 4th.

Jaeda Hunt took silver in the 100m at 11.98 with Mikendy Edwards 4th. Isis Mcvay then hurdled to bronze in the 100h. GAC had no one in the 800m, and  Monroe's Naila Harris took 3rd (2:16.31) with Camielle Milledge 5th. Jaeda Hunt turned the tables in the 200m placing 1st (24.12) In an electric 300h race, J'Milya Poole placed 2nd (while breaking a state record) going 41.85 and Isis Mcvay was 3rd (44.06) Monroe slammed the door in front of the partisan crowd, sweeping the top 2 places in the 4x400, 1st at 3:47.88 and 2nd (4:01.05) Isis Mcvay  won Gold in the TJ with a mark of 38-9.50, while Jaeda Hunt bagged a Gold in the LJ at 19-01.0 and Mikendy Edwards placed 3rd (18-02)

Jasmine Jones of GAC was spectacular in the Hurdles

Greater Atlanta Christian was a strong 2nd scoring 119 points. Jasmine Jones broke 2 3A state records in the 300h with a blazing 41.81 and earlier raced to Gold in the 100h going 13.77 and won silver in the LJ (18-10.50) GAC began finals scoring 14 (like Monroe) winning Gold in the 4x100 at 45.73 (breaking another 3A state meet record) and placed 4th.


Nia Brown (5) edges Jaeda Hunt (4) in the 100m

Nia Brown took 1st in the 100m (11.97) and was 2nd in the 200m (24.49) Jada Jones placed 2nd in the 100h behind her big sis' clocking a 14.02 and 3rd in the 100m dash (12.03)  Chloe Fair ran to silver in the 400m in 56.31, placed 4th in the 300h and LJ. GAC closed out the meet taking bronze in the 4x400 (4:03.29) The Spartans scored a Gold in the field led by Danielle Shipp, as she won a 'jump off" in the HJ with a bar of 5-04. 

Naima Turbes enroute to Gold and new 3A record in the 800m

Westminster scored 46 points in the distance events.. Naima Turbes was putting on a show that rivaled Jasmine Jones', as she ran a scorching 4:50.26 THursday night in the 1600. Turbes then reset the 3A state meet record in the 800m at 2:11.21 Bronte Bachetta raced to 2 silver medals, first in the 1600 (5:10.29) and Saturday in the 800 (2:15.45) Delaney Graham ran away the last laps of the 3200m taking Gold in 11:30.61 and in a strange combo of events placed 3rd in the 400m (56.96) Anna Smith vaulted to 2nd in the PV (9-06) and the Cats' picked up a 4th in the 4x400.

 Cedar Grove clawed their way onto team Podium with 31 points. Antania Swain won a Gold medal in the discus with a toss of 120-09 to lead the Saints.

3A Boys

Cedar Grove's A and B squads in the 4x400 pushed them to the top

It came down to the 4x400 to determine the 3A boys team champ. Down 6 points to Westminster, Cedar swept 1st at 3:18.92 and 2nd going 3:19.93, to overtake the Cats' by 6 points, who secured a bronze (3:20.49) The Saints began finals with only 14 TJ points, as Keshun Byrd placed first with a bound of 47-4.50 and Kortney Cox took 5th. The Saints'began their march speeding to Gold in the 4x100 at 42.13 and picked up 7 points in the 400m.

Israel Spivey of Cedar Grove won 4 Gold medals

Israel Spivey then got crunk in the 100m taking Gold in 10.61 with Cox 4th. Jadon Haselwood kept the Saints' charge forward going taking Gold in the 110h (14.38) Israel Spivey and Kortney Cox duplicated their 100 performance, with Spivey taking 1st in the 200m (21.70) and Cox 4th again. Cedar picked up 10 big points in the 300h behind Haselwood's 3rd (39.90) and Dimitri Cooper's 5th putting them in postion to bypass Westminster in the 4x400. if anyone's counting, that's 4 consecutive team titles for Cedar Grove.

Peter Huff and William Wallace pushed it in the 1600m

Westminster left it all out on track attempting to derail another Cedar Grove title pouring on 96 points. Paris Howland had a huge meet, taking Golds in the HJ at 6-06 then the LJ going 23-6.75 and leaped out to silver in the TJ with a mark of 46-3.50. Alex Cann added a bronze medal in the discus with a mark of 137-05 and Andrew Protiva was 5th in the PV (and 110h) Westminster ran for 37 points in the distance events. Will Wallace placed 1st in the 3200m (9:40.21) and 3rd in the 1600 (4:28.73). Peter Huff scored a silver in the 1600m (4:27.43) and raced to 4th in the 800m. Zachary Roe finished 2nd behind Wallace in the 3200m (9:46.56)  Samuel Woodhouse IV  took 3rd in the 400m at 49.24.   In addition to their bronze in the 4x400, Westminster placed 4th in the 4x100. 

Elijah Compton of Monroe Area hurdles for Gold

Monroe took 3rd as a team behind Elijah Compton's Gold in the 300h going 38.48 and silver in the 110h in 14.50. Chase Spann raced to 1st place in the 400m at 48.82 and took 5th (200m) and sped to 4th (4x400)

Pierce County pieced together 34 points to ascend the team Podium. Tyler Foreman flew to 13-06 taking pole vault Gold. Emmanuel Jernigan scored 15 points in 3 jumps events, including a bronze in the TJ (45-06), 4th- LJ and 5th- HJ. Dee Bethea placed 3rd at 10.93 (100m)
