Riverside Military Boys Roll, Wesleyan Girls Bring It


Issac Teasley of RMA takes 400m Gold

Riverside Military ran roughshod during saturday finals over the A Private field, racking up 93 points after being down 31 points after Friday. RMA began their barrage taking 2nd behind ELCA in the 4x100 clocking a 42.95. Issac Teasley then raced to Gold in the 400m at 49.35 (and later took 3rd in the 200m)with Demaldi Lasisi  taking 5th (200m)

Kai Williams of Mount Pishah leans for the win over Dimnwaobi

Charles Dimnwaobi scored a pair of silvers in the short sprints going 10.74 and in a photo finish was outleaned in the 200m at 21.75 (also was 4th-HJ)

James Seymour of RMA celebrates his 800m win

James Seymour was fresh going into the 800m, and took advantage, coming from behind down the stretch and sprinting by a runners taking Gold in 1:56.90. Orlando Stevens picked up a 4th in the 110h and RMA celebrated their impending title by capturing Gold in the 4x400 at 3:23.16.  Riverside swept the top 2 spots in the TJ as Khalid Duke and Teasley jumped 45-3. 

LenNeth Whitehead of Athens Academy went deep in the Shot at 66-04

Athens Academy had 55 points after Friday, but limited scoring chances for finals. Trevor Bone won silver in the 400m (49.82) The Spartans did well in the distance and field events. LenNeth Whitehead easily won the Shot with a heave of 66-04. Paul Mullinax took bronze in the discus at  153-01 and placed 5th in the Shot. Deion Colzie  climbed to silver in the HJ at 6-4. Ryan Iyer was 2nd in the 1600 (4:25), Graham Blanks took 2nd in the 3200 (9:34) with Alex Branch finishing 4th.  

ELCA races to 4x100 Gold

ELCA would have caught Athens Academy if not for a false start in the 100m, but still scored 62 points. They began finals taking Gold in the 4x100 going 41.43. Thaddeus Underwood  placed 4th in the 400m, Omar Daniels hurdled to bronze in the 300h and ELCA racked up 14 points in the 4x400 getting 2nd and 3rd. 

Frosh Zack Truitt of Landmark seizes 3200 Gold

The 4x400 caused a 3 way tie for the final team Podium spot (get ready to order more team cups!) as Landmark Christian, Mount Pisgah and Hebron Christian were deadlocked, each with 40 points. Frosh Zack 'attack' Truitt 1) won the Boys 3200.

Megan Lynch of Wesleyan swept the 100/200m races

Wesleyan's girls won their first state team title in 9 years, as the Lady Wolves saved their best for Berry State. It began with the Field events on Friday as Megan Lynch won Gold in the LJ (18-08)  Sutton West captured a silver in the HJ at 5-02, Avyonce Carter took 4th in the discus, and Callie Davis added a 5th in the TJ. Wesleyan raced to 1st in the 4x100 going 48.01 (besting Athens Academy) Then, West added 8 points taking 2nd in the 400m (58.35) and later a 5th in the 300h..Lynch then began taking over, as she  won Gold in the 100m (by .003O at 12.191) and followed that up with a win in the 200m at 24.66. and Emrie Harbour placed 5th in the 110h. In the final event of the day, Wesleyan and Athens Academy were separated by 3 points, but the Wolves were hungry for a team title and raced to 4x400 Gold in 3:56.32 clinching the team win. 

Anna Marian Block of Athens Academy

Athens Academy gave it their all, but came up 5 points shy of a 3-peat. Anna marion Block led the way, winning the 1600 (4:56.31) and capped off her GHSA career taking the 800m at 2:12.75. Jasmine Barrow had a great meet, first taking Gold in the TJ at 39-9.75 and in a photo finish, won 400 Gold at 58.34 (and 5th- 200m). Katie Phillips bagged a pair of silvers in both hurdles events. Athens Academy had a pair of 2nds in the 4x100 and 4x400 races.  Emily Elder placed 5th in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600m.

Elizabeth Gibbs scored 22 points for Landmark Christian.

Landmark Christian had a big lead going into Saturday, but few bullets to fire. Elizabeth Gibbs had a great day on the field, winning the discus at 140-7, taking 2 bronzes, in the Shot at 35-10, and later the TJ with a mark of 36-7.50. Erin Fegans ran to Gold in the 3200m (11:03) and placed 5th in the 1600. Lindsay Biggar was 4th in the 1600 & 800 and Mary Kellison Thorne was also 4th in the 3200m. Thorne also vaulted to silver with a bar of 10-0. Landmark ended their day taking 5th in the 4x400. 

Kristin Stephens of ACS

Athens Christian grabbed the final team Podium spot, as Mike Fowler's squad did well in the sprints, hurdles, relays and verticals. Kristin Stephens had a pair of silvers in the 100m (12.194) and 200m (24.74) ACS took 3rd in the 4x100 (49.60)  Out on the field, Madison Pickerel won a bronze in the HJ (5-02), Clara Heiss took 3rd in the PV (9-06) and also was 4th in the 100h.
